Summary
Port Choices and Road Infrastructure in India
During his stay at CES, Barthélémy Bonadio will finalize a project on port and road infrastructure, and their joint impact on regional outcome through their effect on market access. The project uses novel transaction-level export data from India to measure port quality and road transportation costs through firms’ revealed port choices. Using this “revealed preferences” approach, the paper then calibrates a regional model of intra- and international trade to India to study the impact of roads vs. port improvements and their relative benefits.
Mr. Bonadio’s research is in international and spatial economics He also explores the relationship between migration, trade and market access. He has studied the propagation of shocks through global supply chains during the COVID pandemic as well as the joint impact of structural change and globalization on international business cycle synchronization.
Barthélémy Bonadio is an Assistant Professor of Economics at New York University – Abu Dhabi. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at HEC Lausanne. He received his BSc from the University of Geneva, an MSc from the London School of Economics and a PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of International Economics and the IMF Economic Review.
