Janet Currie, Princeton University
Distinguished CES Fellow 2023, 22/11/2019 - 24/11/2023

Thank you for hosting a most enjoyable visit. You really thought to everything. I enjoyed speaking to faculty and hearing about the amazing research conducted here. Auf Wiedersehen!

Gene Grossman, Princeton University
CES Visiting Scholar, 29/09/2023-18/10/2023

I am very grateful for this opportunity to visit CES, LMU and Munich. Although I have been here for a quiet period before the beginning of the winter term. I have enjoyed the steady stream of meetings with LMU professors, post-docs, and students. I am particularly gratified to see that such a large fraction have been women.
Munich is a great city, lively but relaxed, far exceeding my high expectations. I appreciate that you arranged such wonderful weather for me. Also that you gave me an opportunity to check Oktoberfest off my bucket list.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the invitation and arrangements and expecially to Carsten for his warm hospitality. I very much look forward to a return visit one of the days.

Kristoffer Berg, University of Oxford
CES Visiting Scholar, 10/04/2023-07/05/2023

Thank you for the opportunity to visit and for all the great interactions with people here. Both the discussions of research and the socail life have been fun and rewarding. I hope to stay in touch with many of you. To be able to present at your Public Economics seminar (PES) was also a very nice experience for me. As an optimal tax researcher I have appreciated the unique strenght of the research group here in Munich. I will look forward to my next visit to CES.

Haishi Harry Li,
University of Hongkong
CES Visiting Scholar, 09/01/2023-05/02/2023

I would like to take a moment to express my pleasure and thanks for the opportunity to visit in January 2023. The knowledge and insights I gained were invaluable, and I feel very lucky to exchange ideas with such knowledgeable and active researchers at LMU. Your team went above and beyond to ensure that I had a productive and enjoyable visit. The facilities and resources here are world class, and I feel privileged to experience them. Once again, thank you! I look forward to staying connected and furture collaborations.

Jean-Robert Tyran, University of Vienna

What a wonderful and productive time I spent in Munich! What a privilege to be visiting CES! I will certainly recall the numerous inspiring discussions and the enchanting walks in the English Garden for a long time. Many thanks to everyone at CES for the hospitality.

Irem Güceri,

It has been an absolute pleasure to spend time at CES and interact with faculty, students, staff and other visitors. I cannot think of a better place for stimulating wonderful interactions and possibilities for cooperation. Thank you all very much for your warm welcome. Looking forward to many future interactions.

Nicola Lacetera, University of Toronto
CES Visiting Scholar, 01/06/2022 – 27/07/2022

Thank you so much, once again, for your wonderful hospitality in the past two months. It was such a treat to meet and interact with brilliant colleagues (local and visiting), bright and curios students, and staff members who are the living proof that one can be efficient, competent and very kind at once. Munich always provides an irritatingly high quality of life, and even the weather was very collaborative.

Benjamin Lockwood, University of Pennsylvania
CES Visiting Scholar, 08/04/2022 – 06/05/2022

5 May 2022
I thank you most sincerely for this very enjoyable visit! I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to meet the faculty, the students, and to share my research in progress. In addition, the CES staff was most helpful in arranging for a pleasant visit, and little perks like the guest bikes and the Munich guide book were most appreciated! I look forward to visiting again when the occasion follows.

Sarah Lein, University of Basel

Thank you very much for your kind hospitality during my stay here in Munich. Despite Covid, I spent a very rewarding time here. I enjoyed the opportunity to share my research during my CES lectures and the international economics seminar. I also enjoyed the stimulating one-to-one walks in the English Garden with Ph. D. students and junior faculty members. I was impressed by the vibrant intellectual community and all the talent that you are blessed to have here in Munich. I look forward to another stay or conference visit when things open up again.

Thank you for the invitation to visit LMU, CES, and ifo this summer! I had a terrific time and it was great to interact with old friends and to start new friendships. Thanks to Andreas Peichl & Clemens Fuest for inviting me and to the excellent faculty and PhD students for providing a stimulating research environment. I also want to thank Ulrike, Renate and Martina for all the administrative support. Finally, my wife and son are also thankful for providing us with childcare support. As a family, we could not have visited Munich absent this support. It goes to show the CES visitors program is leading by example in the effort to support working families. Thanks again! Can't wait to come back!

Paolo Giovanni Piacquadio, University of Oslo

My research stay at CES is getting close to its end. It has been a fantastic period. I truly enjoyed the sparkling and intense academic life, the discussions with inhouse and visitor researchers, the high level research seminars, and the time I had available to progress on my research. If this was not enough, Munich offers a great landscape with plenty of cultural activities, excellent biking opportunities, and superlative food. For all this, I would like to heartfully thank CES for this opportunity. A particular thank to my hosts and to Ulrike Gasser, who fixed several small bureaucratic issues and made sure my stay was smooth. I look forward to visiting again during the next years.

Woan Foong Wong,

29 May 2019
Thanks for a wonderful stay in Munich. The collaboration between CES, ifo, and LMU made for an intellectually stimulating environment. There were many interesting seminars and workshops to attend. But the highlight of my visit was getting to interact with Helmut Rainer at ifo on some new research projects. These are the types of collaboration which the CESifo network is so good at facilitating. Here's to many more productive visits in the future!

Michael Reiter, Institute of Advanced Studies (IHS)
CES Visiting Scholar, 05/05/2019 - 17/05/2019

17 May 2019
I have been staying here for only two weeks, and I interacted mostly with PhD students and going faculty, and I am quite impressed by their quality and their ideas/projects, so I was having very productive discussions, and I am confident I can stay in touch with people here. So it was a very good time, thank you!

Martin Besfamille, Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC)
CES Visiting Scholar, 19/01/2019 - 20/02/2019

19 February 2019
In a couple of hours I will leave from Munich. I have spent a month at CES, whose hospitality I sincerely thank. This academic visit will be unforgettable.
During my interactions with the members of the Economic Department of LMU, and ifo, I could realize the commitment to high-quality research of this group of people. I hope to be able to collaborate with some of them in the near future.
I also had great conversations with students that attended my lectures. I thank them for their openness to tell me about their Ph.D. projects. Some of them seem quite promising.
I received excellent comments and suggestions during and after my seminar presentation. I am sure that they will help me to improve the final version of my paper.
The academic environment at CES would be impossible without the invaluable help of all the staff. Some secretaries had infinite patience, answering all my emails sent before my arrival to Munich, with questions related not only to academic issues but, more importantly to logistics (I did not mention that I came here with all my family: Maria Elena, Agustin, Pablo and Matias).
Last, I would like to thank the possibility that CES gave me to lodge in one of the apartments at IBZ, which also made my stay great. Indeed, its comfort, size, equipment, and location are remarkable. I do hope to come back soon!

Yilin Hou,
Maxwell School, Syracuse University
CES Visiting Scholar, 19/11/2018 - 13/01/2019

10 January 2019
This has been an extraordinary visit and research experience. It is rewarding - I was able to hold in-depth discussions with several senior faculty of CES and ifo - the unique composition (organization) of the CESifo Group makes it possible to have really inter-disciplinary explorations. This is especially valuable in an era when it is even difficult to talk with scholars working in different areas of the same discipline.
The research environment is nourishing with the multiple seminars, talks, workshops make possible with the rich resources. Thus, faculty of LMU, researchers of ifo, and visitors all benefit a lot. CESifo is already a hub of ideas.
The office space and administrative support as well as lodging are also very satisfactory. Thanks to all.

Claudia Steinwender, MIT Sloan School of Management

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the faculty, staff and students of CES; in particular Martina, Ulrike and Renate. I had a wonderful time here! This applies both to CES and to Munich. I really enjoyed my interactions with the students who attended my lectures.
The facilities at the IBZ guesthouse are great. Thank you for lending me the bike. I had a great time riding it through the English Gardens.
I hope to come back again if the opportunity arises.

Dear CES team,
I had a wonderful and productive time at CES and want to express my deepest gratitude. The hospitality and professionalism of the whole team is second to none and the many stimulating and thaught-provoking meetings and interactions with everyone, faculty, PhD students, friends, across departments of the university, across universities, but also the ifo Institute make Munich a special place; not to speak of the perfect location, the many beergardens, and the stellar food. Thanks!

Yoshiyasu Ono
, Osaka University

19 September 2017
Four years ago I visited CES and had a wonderful time. Since then I had been hoping to visit here again and it was happily realized. It was a great privilege for me. This time my stay was even more productive and enjoyable. It started by a very interesting conference at ifo. Then I had joint work with Professor Illing and one of his junior faculty members. Also, I had interesting and delightful discussions with several students. I very much appreciate them for their warm hospitality. In addition to researches, I very much enjoyed visiting a lot of museums, listening to wonderful music in various places, including Cuvilliés theatre, Herkulessaal, and Bayerische Staatsoper, and even watching football games. Munich is full of cultural attractions!
I thank all the CES staff for their very kind and helpful support.
Three months have so fast passed and I have to return to Osaka very soon. I am sure I will miss LMU and Munich. I hope I can come here once again.

After more than 15 years studying and working abroad I very much benefitted from the many conversations with professors, researchers and PhD students at LMU, ifo and TUM. I enjoyed the preparation of my CES lectures, the interaction with students in class, my walks between ifo and CES through the English Garden and overall the great research environment!
