Summary
The Rise in Services Trade
During his CES research visit, Andreas Moxnes will work with Martina Magli on a new project on international trade in services. Services account for an increasingly large share of GDP in modern economies. Moreover, firms traditionally located in the manufacturing industry are deriving an increasing share of their revenues from services, with services key in promoting exports and facilitating imports of goods (Ariu et al. 2020, Ariu et al. 2019 and Lodefalk 2014). However, research in international trade is predominantly focused on trade in physical goods. In this research project, we utilize novel register data on the universe on goods and services trade for Denmark and Sweden, to document and analyze the causes and consequences of the rise in services trade.
Among Mr. Moxnes’ main research interests are the interaction between globalization and the behavior of the firm, production networks as well as reallocations in product markets and productivity growth. His current research interests include international trade and firm responses to globalization, productivity and reallocations in product markets, as well as the interaction between trade and multinational production.
Andreas Moxnes is a Professor of Economics at the University of Oslo. Prior to joining the University of Oslo he was an Assistant Professor at Dartmouth College. He is editorial board member of the Review of Economic Studies and a CEPR Research Fellow. He earned his PhD at the University of Oslo.
