Nudged into Lockdown? Behavioral Economics, Uncertainty and Covid-19

This is the title of a recent book by Ananish Chaudhuri, published by Edward Elgar. Utilizing extensive research in economics, psychology, political science, neuroscience and evolutionary theory, Mr. Chaudhuri provides a critical perspective on the role of cognitive biases in decision-making during the Covid-19 pandemic. The extensive use of, and support for, stringent social distancing measures in particular is explored in depth.

Mr. Chaudhuri has written about behavioral economics, experimental economics, and political psychology. He has taught courses on behavioral decision making, experimental economics, and behavioral economics, among others.

Ananish Chaudhuri’s research has appeared in leading scholarly journals including Nature Human Behaviour, Review of Economic Studies, American Journal of Political Science, Economic Journal, Journal of Public Economics and Experimental Economics. He is Senior Editor of Oxford Open Economics, the first fully open access journal in Economics. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books including Experiments in Economics Playing Fair with Money and Behavioural Economics and Experiments, both published by Routledge and the above-mentioned Nudged into lockdown? Behavioral Economics, Uncertainty and Covid-19 published by Edward Elgar.

Ananish Chaudhuri is Professor of Experimental Economics at the University of Auckland and served as the Chair of the Department of Economics from 2013 till 2019. Mr Chaudhuri received his PhD from Rutgers University and prior to joining the University of Auckland, taught at Washington State University and Wellesley College. He is a Fellow of the CESifo Research Network.
