Summary

Effects of Globalization

Giordano Mion’s research focuses on international trade, economic geography, and applied microeconomics, with particular emphasis on the spatial and firm-level effects of globalization. His work examines how trade shocks transmit across regions and sectors, how firms and workers adjust to changes in trade costs, and how global production networks shape macroeconomic and regional outcomes.

While visiting CES, Giordano Mion will be working on several ongoing research projects. These include projects on: 1) The role of international outsourcing and IT capital in shaping the organizational structure of firms, 2) The impact of Chinese imports on labor and tasks allocation within business groups (at home and abroad), 3) The role of commuting to work in shaping firm productivity, and 4) The impact of large establishments’ location on local amenities, matching and productivity.

Giordano Mion is currently a Professor of Economics at ESSEC Business School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, an MSc in Economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain, and a PhD in Economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain. He has previously held academic positions in the United Kingdom and he is affiliated to the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) and the CEPR and CESifo research networks. His research has been published in leading academic journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the Journal of Political Economy. He has served as a consultant to various international organizations including the European Commission and the World Bank.
